NEW RADIO DRAMA - 'MIGRANT MOTHER' - TO BE BROADCAST.
Michael's latest radio drama will be broadcast on BBC Radio 3 on Sunday 28th November at 20.00, and should be available on BBC IPlayer for a week after the broadcast.

Granta Essay published
Michael's commissioned essay on 'Silence' for Granta was published in a recent issue. The piece was a response to a visit to Pluscarden Abbey in Scotland, to explore to the life and work of the monks in this remote, contemplative order.

'The Sacrifice' opera released on CD
Chandos has released a double-CD recording of 'The Sacrifice', performed live at the Wales Millennium Centre in Cardiff. The opera, with libretto by Michael and music by James MacMillan, won the Royal Philharmonic Society (RPS) Award for Opera.

'Soft Keys' re-published in new edition by Cape
Michael's first full poetry collection - 'Soft Keys' - was originally published by Secker & Warburg in 1993. Now, in a new edition, it joins his four later collections - and his two novels - as part of the Cape (Random House) list.

'Miracle on the Estate' wins TV Award
BBC1 film 'Miracle on the Estate', screened on Good Friday 2008, has received the Premier Prize for Television at the Sandford St Martin Awards, in a ceremony held on June 1st in Lambeth Palace, London. Michael wrote the libretto and James Atherton the music in this modern version of a medieval miracle play, performed by the people of Harpurhey in Manchester. It was directed by Chris Salt and made by the BBC in Manchester.

'Edgelands' wins Jerwood Prize for Non-Fiction
'EDGELANDS - Journeys into England's Last Wilderness', due to be published by Cape in 2011, has won a Royal Society of Literature Jerwood Award for non-fiction. A co-authored book between Michael and fellow poet Paul Farley, 'EDGELANDS' won the award with a synopsis and sample chapter, and Michael and Paul received the award at a ceremony in London on March 9th.

'Soldiers in the Sun' wins Clarion Award
Radio drama 'Soldiers in the Sun', broadcast in November last year on BBC Radio 3, exploring the effects of post-traumatic-stress-disorder on soldiers, has won a Clarion Award, and is shortlisted for a Mental Health Award.

Novel dramatised for Radio 4
Dramatisation of latest novel - 'Breath' - will be broadcast on BBC Radio 4 at 9pm on November 21st
